Leadership in essence encapsulates self-leadership; leadership goes beyond supervising others. Development, personal development, is actually critical to how far anyone leads others effectively. Pamper the leader's personal development so that its leadership stretches to be flexible, empathetic, and inspiring.

Self-awareness can translate into a major leadership ability. Through self-awareness, a leader accepts the responsibility of whether or not to take action as well as awareness of strengths, weaknesses, and feelings. Self-reflective practice serves to remind leaders as a rule of an arena in which they can develop—namely emotional intelligence, another fine-quality virtue of leadership.

Intertwined in those foundations is communication. Good leaders listen, communicate their thoughts clearly, and work on enhancing their communication skills through developmental opportunities such as public speaking, active listening exercises, or feedback sessions.

Decision-making comes high up. Leaders some time march forth in a decision by burning, at other times, freezing under pressure. Learning forever, reading, exposing someone to different experiences aids in the critical thinking and problem-solving process such that good decisions are made after some time in that regard.

Emotional Intelligence and empathy are hallmarks of great leaders. Emotional growth empowers leaders to understand the felt needs of their team members and emotions to create a conducive and motivating environment. Develop those by journaling, mindfulness, or mentoring.

Another skill formed through personal development is adaptability. In these fast-changing and dynamic times, leaders need to be flexible and open to change. Continuous learning and watching for changes in the industry will further develop that much-needed growth mindset of adaptability.

Goal setting and serious commitment add flesh to the concept of leadership in an individualistic perspective. Make goal-setting part of individual development in your standard expectations for the team. Monitoring progress engenders resilience and persistence, two vital attributes of leadership success.

The great leader will be the one who maintains a quest for learning throughout his life. Any opportunity, whether in a formal setting or the informal learning field, should be seized by the leaders for their enhancement; the greater works for the self's enhancement, the more elevation of their actual leadership skills.

This one personal attribute just translates into real leadership-the continuous process of improving oneself. In this way, as you climb, you naturally acquire habits that would equip you to lead others in an effective, straight, and compassionate way.
